“Panel Home Construction with SIPs”

Structural Insulated Panel Systems by Eagle Panel Systems

Introduction to Eagle Panel Systems

EAGLE PANEL SYSTEMS is a pioneer in the field of Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs).  Thirty years of experience in the SIP Industry has resulted in the development of our exclusive brands.  Besides our basic SIPs, sometimes referred to as Stress Skin Panels, of Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Insulation sandwiched between Oriented Strand Board (OSB) skins, used in the Log and Timber Frame Industries, we offer specialty Panels exclusive to our brands.  Our ISIP® Roof System works well for the Conventional Home Building and Commercial Building Industries as well as Log and Timber Frame.  Integrated Structural Insulated Panel (ISIP®) Roof Systems carry heavier snow loads and span farther than basic SIPs.  ISIP® is also used for walls.  The difference between the SIP and the ISIP® is the dimensional lumber included in the latter.

Why Use Eagle Panel Systems

At the core of every Eagle Panel Systems SIP is expanded polystyrene insulation. Environmentally friendly, the EPS used in the manufacture of Eagle Panels contains no chloro-fluorocarbons (CFCs) or ureaformaldehyde. Unlike other types of insulation, EPS will not shrink, decompose, or decrease in thermostability due to moisture or age, EPS, a closed cell, low density insulation with an R-Value of 4.17 per inch at 40 degrees, provides one of the best thermal economic ratios of all insulation materials available. An extremely smooth-skinned insulation board composed of noncommunicating cells, EPS forms a rigid, light-weight board which is high in thermal properties. Millions of cells or air bubbles form a natural dead air insulator. Because the cells are noncommunicating, and do not transmit heat or cold easily, EPS provides an excellent year-round insulation.

Incorporating standard studs and rafters 24", or 16", on center within the rigid expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation core, the panels are sheathed on both sides with oriented strandboard (OSB) skins. These OSB structural skins, held in place by lamination to the EPS core and mechanically fastened to the stud or rafter, act in the same manner as the top and bottom cords of the common roof truss. The lamination of these component parts into a single unit provides unparalleled racking strength and allowable roof loads.

All EPS used in the manufacture of Eagle Panel Systems SIPs has been approved by the major building codes, including The Council of American Building Officials (NER-384). Extensive testing has been conducted (ASTM-E84) on the toxicity of expanded polystyrene insulation when exposed to sufficient heat for decomposition. Results reveal any toxicity is decidedly less than that of wood or other approved residential building materials.

Stronger and more energy efficient, Eagle Panel Systems SIPs are also labor saving. Therefore, construction time and labor costs are significantly reduced. By standing a wall panel all framing, insulating, sheathing, house wrap, and vapor barrier is achieved in one simple step.

Sold on the strength, energy efficiency, comfort and affordability of Eagle Panel Systems SIPs, homeowners often ask, "Why would anyone build any other way?"
